This is the Alaskan portion of the license plate collection of Rich Cartier. A few of the plates are from the collection of Rich's stepson, Mikel Thompson.
About the Collector
Rich, a refugee from the dreaded state of California, came to Alaska in 1997 after convincing his Alaska sourdough wife to return to her homeland. He got into license plates when, at 7 years old, his grandfather gave him a stack of 60's era plates from Arizona. The seed was planted, and through negotiations the plates started to roll in from relatives' barns and garages -- who seemed intrigued by his quirky new hobby. By his teens, he decided to join ALPCA (#6732). Rich's first goal was to collect a plate from every US State and Territory. He also went after every province in Canada. His state run completed, and now an Alaskan resident, Rich is now working on expanding his Alaska collection, as well as the Yukon Territory and the state of Nevada.
